What is “Soft” skills? Soft skills are the ability to see things as they are, without trying to impose their way of thinking on others. In other words, it means that you have the ability to think clearly about things which are not your way of doing them (for example, when talking about business, you talk so fast that people start to lose interest in you and get confused). While working for a company or managing a team, it’s very important to have good communication skills. These two key factors will make you more effective at all types of work and can help you learn how to communicate with different individuals and different departments. When we interact with an individual our brain creates a picture of them based on information available to us. This is called “Effortful Thinking” which leads to “Concealing”. It means that you want to avoid conflict by keeping your thoughts clear and expressing your ideas using phrases like “I am sorry to hear…” or trying to be patient while having these conversations.
What is the difference between “Soft” and “Hard” Skills?
Soft and Hard skills. Here is the definition from Wikipedia:
In soft skills are the capacity to find meaning in things, to understand things, to engage them, to make connections, to form new opinions, to empathize, and to solve problems. They include the abilities that allow us to feel compassion and concern for others, to relate to people in their emotional lives, to sense how difficult situations can be, and to recognize that we often fail to notice how much effort is required to achieve goals despite our best efforts. However, hard skills are defined as being those characteristics of knowledge or talent that people typically associate with a domain of human endeavour, such as politics, journalism, military strategy or sports.
So which skill should you focus on? By focusing your time and resources on the most relevant skill, you will be able to achieve success in whatever you have chosen to do! How to build Soft Skills?
Let’s say that one day you have a meeting with Mr. X and there is some disagreement about your project or maybe he doesn’t want you to implement the changes. In this instance, if Mr. X’s wants to continue implementing the change, you have two options:
Option 1 : You could try different approaches until you find the right compromise. As long as nothing changes, you could just go ahead and tell the boss that you have found a suitable solution without changing anything else, but you would still spend time preparing everything. Of course, this approach might be successful enough to get an increase from the boss, but your contribution could be overlooked with time.

Of course, this approach might be successful enough to get an increase from the boss, but your contribution could be overlooked with time. Option 2 : If you’re really confident that your idea will not lose the boss’ attention, you could accept the situation and leave everything to him, but you would not spend any time figuring out what would happen after the fact. Since this has been done before without a positive outcome, you would end up wasting your time and energy and miss valuable opportunities.
So, what is the correct approach? The approach that would get you closer to the boss faster and would lead to better results. There are three major areas in building a soft skill:
1- Communication Skills:
Use strong spoken and written language. Make sure that everyone understands what you’re saying. Try to clarify your points as much as possible and don’t make assumptions because of your past experience. And most importantly, keep your opinions close to the actual facts. Don’t forget your emotions, try to be neutral and considerate in all matters.
2- Problem Solving Skills
Do research and take control over processes instead of following someone else’s directions. Even if you lack the skills to do something, you can learn new ones by applying yourself and solving problems instead of delegating tasks. Learn to stay calm when faced with difficulties and don’t forget to take into account your own judgment and bias while making mistakes.
3- Interpersonal Skills
: When facing issues dealing with clients or teammates, try to be attentive at every single stage of the process, you work to solve problems, meet deadlines. Always listen carefully to others and respect their views, then use your empathy and compassion to handle various arguments without letting your ego win the argument.
3 Main soft skills are listed below:
1. Good listening
2. Active participation
3. Empathy
4. Flexibility
5. Resilience
6. Persistence
7. Self-awareness
8. Awareness of bias
9. Motivation
10. Personal Growth
To sum it up, the main thing is to practice! Start small and gradually build up to improve your performance. The biggest advantage of practicing soft skills with others is that you get in touch with the real world and practice what you already know. You can improve your personal growth and gain self-awareness! When you become more aware of the abilities that you have, your confidence grows in you, and your ability to stand firm against difficulties gets stronger
